Advertisement Analysis: Geico Advertising

Improved Essays
The first advertisement is the Geico ad which is titled, “The Villain Presentation”. This commercial is obviously trying to sell car insurance but is using a different technique. When the advertisement starts off you don't know what the advertisement is for. It sort of sparks the viewers interest. The first time I saw this advertisement on TV I was so confused and thats what made me watch it all the way through. They use that catchy phrase at the end which simply means spend 15 minutes with Geico and you will save a lot of money. They use dark humour because villains will not tell you their plans, especially not in that much depth. So then the question is, is Geico really saving us money? The second advertisement is StateFarm, another insurance …show more content…
The only reason why I think this is because when the advertisement starts off you don't know what its about until the end of the advertisement, so the viewers attention is caught and that is the goal of all advertisements. This advertisement starts off with the villain portraying an actual villain. This is archetype, but then the villain continues to tell his victim his plan to destroy the world in depth. We see this a lot in humour movies and action movies where the bad guy tells the victim his plan and the victim ends up getting away and stopping the bad guy. But actual villains do not reveal their plans to anyone. The advertisement then goes on to say that “As long as evil villains reveal their plans you can count on Geico saving folks money,” but in reality villains don't share their evil plans so does Geico really save folks money? This advertisement uses dark humour to get the attention of their viewers. Geico is known for their advertisements because all of them are so out of the box, but you know they are selling insurance by the end of it because they use the same line at the end of each

I believe that this NationWide car insurance commercial uses all three rhetorical devices when encouraging you to buy their insurance. First there is pathos. Pathos is used to make you feel a kind of parental love towards your car, comparing your vehicle to an actual baby. Their goal is for you to believe that your car deserves just as much health care as your child would. Also incorporate ethos, which is shown in a couple different ways.…

Persuasive Essay It’s been more than two thousand years ago that a Greek philosopher could determine three ways to persuade an audience. One of them is ethos. Ethos shows that the person making the video or commercial has a certain degree of credibility. Having credibility in ethos contains good character and sense, also qualified to accomplish the argument.…

If I was a person who was looking for a place to go on vacation and was motivated to find a location, then I could be more easily swayed to enjoy this commercial than someone who was watching television just for leisure. It would make this a very logical place to go for a vacation, as it shows happy people and declares itself to be the “roller coaster capital of the world”. I have been on roller coasters before and that experience tells me that they do not cause ones face to distort to the level shown in the advertisement. This makes it all the more humorous, to see something so wildly exaggerated is quite humorous. My personality likes to find certain things excessively humorous, and the facial expressions featured were no exception.…

Donna Woolfolk Cross, author of an article called Propaganda: How Not to Get Bamboozled, says “For good or evil, propaganda pervades our daily lives, helping to shape our attitudes on a thousand subjects.” No matter what the purpose is for an ad there is always some type of “tricky” language being used. Usually, this “tricky” language is being used in a way that would persuade an audience to do whatever the ad is wanting them to do. In a political ad the main purpose is usually to get the audience to believe what that political person believes and to do that they use different types of propaganda in order to sway the audience’s opinion. However, the same goes for product ads.…

Advertisements are all around us, they have become part of our everyday life. This makes it easier to not pay any attention to them. Since we really are not paying attention to advertisements, it makes the companies who make these ads work harder to get our attention. I have compared two advertisements, although both advertisements are not selling the same, or even similar products, I believe the way they are relaying the message is something they have in common.…

Advertisements make such good bait for the human eyes. Companies spend essentially billions of dollars on advertising their products. Businesses use many different methods to make their product sell and make their customers want to get it. Advertisements convey essentially a psychological desire to get the product and use it because that ad makes them what to be like the person in the commercial. The products I am comparing are “Gucci Guilty” and “Radiance “by Britney Spears.…

The commercial features a gorilla that appears to have a delightful and happy expression during the advert playing a famous drum solo “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins. The commercial is shot in a recording studio with a purple background which reinforces the brand Cadbury throughout the advert. The selling tactic that is used is humorous because a gorilla playing a drum kit does not happen in reality.…
