This week in clinical I was on the Critical Care Unit. My patient was in for respiratory problems. At the start of clinical I was getting report and one of the nurses and was interrupted to assist with a catheter. Was excited to insert a catheter, which was my first time successfully inserting a catheter in to a female patient.
During this shift my nurse had three patients. She had to focus and work efficiently to get everything completed on time. She also had to be flexible to move patients in and out of the critical care unit. One stable patient was being transferred to progressive care. The plan was for this patient to be discharged home in the morning. I assisted to transporting the patient and the chart to the new room. This was necessary because an unstable patient was coming from the emergency room and needed a critical care bed. …show more content…
I meet this goal by asking for help, as I needed assistance to find information on my patient’s history. My skills get better with each experience. I now feel comfortable using the computer to finding various pieces of pertinent information on my patient.
Skills that I preformed during my second clinical consisted of inserting an indwelling catheter, performing physical assessments, identifying cardiac rhythms, administering medications, and charting continually while evaluating the status of my patient. As I mentioned above, this was the first time I have inserted a catheter into a female patient. That was exciting for me and gave me a confidence boost because inserting caterers is typically more challenging to do for female than male
