As the standard infantry rifle of the Second World War, the Garand saw combat throughout theaters in Europe with the United States Army and especially in the Pacific with the United States Marine Corps. The major distinction of the M1 Garand series lay in the acceptance of the weapon system as the first self-loading rifle reaching operational status in the world. This occurred at a time when other national military forces were still relying on the tried and true, albeit slow-loading, bolt-action type rifles. The M1 Garand, however, was not only…

The Second Amendment states “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”. This amendment was instituted to the Constitution on December 15, 1791 and means that any person in our country has the right to own and bear arms at any point and that the right may not be taken from you. Although James Madison did not invent the right to bear arms he did in fact wright the second amendment. The framers of this amendment decided it was important to be able to bear arms because of the success they found of having guns in the previous war [the English men also just enjoyed the use of arms]. Although this is still an amendment today it still has gone through a lot of debate.…

It is an extremely sad reality that there are so many lives lost, when it comes to what is supposed to be something used for protection. The AR-15 has been used in several shootings, examples being the Aurora theatre shooting, the Clackamas Mall shooting, and the shooting of 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary. Due to the human nature of self-defense, sport, and surviving, the second amendment will always remain relevant in society. Although there are many regulations as to who can own a gun, where they are allowed, and requiring a permit to carry and concealed weapon, the second amendment still protects and grants the right of the militia and citizens to “keep and bear arms”. In order to ensure that the government couldn’t take away the citizens firearms, the founding fathers preserved their right to self-defense with the ratification of the second amendment on December 15, 1791. In today's society, Americans are still trying to defend their right to bear arms.…

The root of the debate is to whether or not the Second Constitutional Amendment is meant to protect an individual’s right to bear arms. The real question is do American citizens have the right to bear arms? If they bear this right then to what extent and what kind should be allowed. With the advancements in weaponry in modern times American citizens should have the right to certain arms for their own protection, but not the right to all weapons available. While the legality of ownership has been upheld this far for citizens in the United States the technology of weaponry has certainly changed.…

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution was created as a part of the Bill of Rights in 1791. This Amendment protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms, but different interpretations of this amendment have encouraged a long-running debate over the rights of individual citizens to buy, own and carry firearms and gun control legislation. Prior to the framing of this amendment the word “militia” referred to assemblies of able bodied men who organized in order to watch over their communities, colonies and eventually states, once the United States gained its independence from Great Britain in 1776. At the time, many believed that the government only used soldiers in order to oppress the people. In turn many people believed…

The Founding Fathers of the United States wrote the Second Amendment to the Constitution for a reason; to protect the rights of the people. This means that citizens have the privilege and ability to possess a gun and use than gun for lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. The government has no right to restrict them in owning guns for this reason. Further amending the right to own a gun would only do more harm than good in the United States. By creating stricter gun control laws, the government would not solve the problem of criminals obtaining weapons and would only take away the protection of the people.…

Guns are used all around the world, but here in the United States, we need to keep our gun usage limited with gun laws. Gun laws are put into action to make sure firearms are used responsibly; however, people will always find a way to break these laws no matter how many are made. Our Second Amendment, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”, gives U.S. citizens the right to own a weapon and use it for the right reasons. Gun laws will not reduce the amount of gun deaths in the U.S. because gun laws do not determine crime; gun ownership determines crime numbers. There were 460,000 gun deaths in the U.S. between 1999-2013 and this was the 12th leading cause of death.…

Our Second Amendment protects an individual's rights to own a firearm unconnected with service in a military, and to use that firearm for traditionally lawful purpose such as self-defense. The right to own and bear arms laws is as fundamental and as essential to maintaining liberty as are the rights of free speech, a free press, and freedom of religion. As a result of the Second Amendment, I understand that it is not that hard to get or have access to a firearm and that gun control laws are just as old as the Second Amendment. I also believe that you should be allowed to have a firearm in your house if you wish, but you have to meet certain requirements. Also you should not need a reason to carry a weapon because it is your right you have a choice and if that makes you feel safer wherever you are then do what you want.…
