If a piece of equipment on train becomes defective or isolated, effecting onward movement, what 4 things must you do

Stop train

Contact signaller/Roc

Do not move train

Follow instructions

Describe MSDO list and what it does

Driver is able to select the trains location I.e station and platform number from a pre selected list. The train will then match this to the information on its database and know automatically the number of doors that need to be released. Driver will still need to stop at the correct marker and ensure correct station selected.

Describe MSDO coaches

Driver can manually select the coaches they would like the doors to be released on. Driver must take into account short platforms as doors may be released that are not on the platform

List two PPS’s for stop short and door release

Ensure you are stopping at correct marker board for your unit and it’s in line with edge of windscreen.

Ensure you stop and pause to make sure you are fully in platform before releasing doors.

PPS’s for wrong side door release

Verbally say to yourself which side platform is on or point at platform before releasing doors

If platform on offside stand up and door release using buttons on back cab wall or swivel seat to right before releasing.

PPS’s for wrong side re release

Keep fingers over door button and sit on free hand

PPS’s for if someone still in touch with train

Always do a final sweep of monitors

Enlarge image if someone is too close to ensure no clothing is trapped

List 4 wrong side door failures

1. Can take traction power with door open

2. Doors open without a release given

3. Can take traction power with a door obstructed

4. Doors open on opposite side of release given

Explain key points for following modes on the unit

1. Wrong direction mode

2. Siding mode

3. Terminal station mode

4. Slow speed mode

5. ECS mode

6. Wash mode

Wrong direction mode- external lights will display selected lights at both ends

Siding mode- max speed available 6mph- traction power available limited to 33%- power will shut off at selected speed- downhill gradient will cause overspeed- if emergency brake applied mode dis engaged.

Terminal station mode- select if station staff need to proceed through train to do a sweep. Allows staff to close and lock off doors as they go.

Slow speed mode- use when coupling/uncoupling- max speed 2mph- 33% traction power available. Power will shut off at 2mph. Beware downhill gradient. Need to re select mode if braked

ECS mode- will display not in service on pis internal and external- inputs 99999 into HMI as pis code- isolates train doors- reduces hvac operation- main lighting to standby mode

Wash mode - 3mph limited to- traction power restricted to 33%- disengage if emergency brake applied- use for entering wash- may enter wash when icon stops flashing.

You can’t close an open door and will have to move with door open. You have been asked to de train at your second booked station, what are your actions

Stop in convenient location

Contact signaller/roc for instructions.

Make PA and see if member of rail staff is available CP

Lock doors out of use on affected coaches and move passengers to another coach

Get CP to keep passengers away

Continue through coach physically checking all other doors on both side, activate TIS and follow instructions for onward movement.

What is the main risk when driving in any slow speed mode.

Overspeed can still occur if on a downhill gradient so driver must still pay attention

Explain the purpose and function of snow mode

snow mode is selected when snow is falling or being disturbed by the passage of trains.the train will put more emphasis on the air braking system when running brake test is performed. This helps brake discs/pads and rigging to keep free of snow and ice and potentially seizing up.

List immediate actions if fire alarm went off above ground

Stop train immediately avoiding tunnels and contact signaller (stop/box) emergency red button on GSMR

Acknowledge fire alarm

Check HMI to see affected coach and check in coach monitors.

Make PA to passengers to move to a unaffected coach and not to try to evacuate train onto running lines as trains could be passing

Attempt to tackle fire if possible , if not re contact signaller request line block and authority to emergency evacuate train.

List immediate actions if fire alarm goes off on NCL

Stop train and contact signaller preferably with part of train in a station

Request emergency switch off 3rd rail.

Acknowledge fire alarm button

Check HMI and monitors. Press emergency hvac off button to stop smoke being drawn back into train.

Make pa telling passengers to move to unaffected coach

Tackle fire if possible. If not re contact signaller for authority to carry out emergency evacuation of train

Why must you not use DRA on the move

Using on the move will increase stopping distances because the train will be using only friction air braking instead of Theo static braking in order for the train to stop.

Why may someone want you to switch off the euro valise antenna and what three options in preference order

Switch off if someone need to access the underside of your train as radiation is given off.

Preferred - Tripp MCB back panel

2- aux off battery

3- isolate Etcs switches in both cabs

What should be checked prior to deploying de train meant steps on NCL

CRE is switched off

No obstruction or person is in the 4 foot

Short circuit bar if using is as close to coupler as possible so steps can clear
