  • Back
where do testicle cancers drain?
to the abdominal aorta lymph nodes (not palpable)
where do prostate cancers drain?
internal iliac lymph nodes
where does the SKIN of the scrotum drain?
superficial inguinal nodes (can be palpated)
balanitis
swelling of the foreskin and head of the penis w rash, foul discharge, painful
paraphimosis
foreskin stuck behind glans penis; often occurs during catherization or cleaning of foreskin
phimosis
foreskin cant be retracred due to metatal stenosis or scarring
blue dot sign
caused by torsion of the testicular appendix;
positive transillumination
hydrocele
negative transillumination w swelling
varicocele (widening of penis veins)
conjugates
= pelvic diameter, diagonal conjugate can be approximated during pelvic examination
cervix
the NECK of the uterus; the uterine cavity is farther bacl

cervix is 2.5 cm long, external os extends down into vagina while internal os is 2.5cm away which leads into a narrow
Uterus anatomy
pelvic pain line significance
anything touched by the peritoneum is above the pelvic pain line; anything inferior is below

if above, pain fibers are carried through the lubar splanmchnics along w sympathetics bc dome of uterus is covered by peritoneum, so pain flows with the lumbar nerves

in contrast the vagina is below the pelvic pain line so those fibers flow into the sacral splanchnics along w parasyp fibers as well as w pudendal nerve w external genitalia

if pudendal nerve is blocked woman w feel contractions + pain in birth canal

epideral will block everything below pelvic pain line (wont numb uterus so woman can feel her contractions)

if it's a spinal block at the lumbar level it blocks EVERYTHING
drain in same range as blood supply
broad ligament
connects uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries to pelvic side wall
round ligament
connects uterine fundus to labia majora; round like the number of structures it carries (ZERO); derived from gubernaculum, travels through ROUND inguinal canal
ligament of the ovary
connects ovary to uterus
suspensaory ligament of the ovaries
connects ovaries to lateral pelvic wall; contains ovarian vessels (not a true ligament since its made up of vessels)
where does one find the artery and urterine vein?
cardinal ligament; connects cervix to side wall of the pelvis
cardinal ligament
connects cervix to side wall of the pelvis
space between two diaphragms
ischoanal fossa
three corpi of penis
2 corpus cavernosum and corpus spongiosum (bottom)
mons pubis
mountain
innervation of perineum (region around genitals and anus)
pudendal nerve; also provides motor innervation to the urogenital diaphragm
innervation of ilioinguinal nerve
mons pubis
lymphatic drainage for vag
learn the arterial supply of blood and reverse it
dihydrotestosterone
hormone that causes masculinization of the external genitalia
raphe
line of fusion on the bottom of the penis
no 5 alpha reductase
have no DHT;
gonads and ducts derive from..
intermediate mesoderm
remnant of gubernaculum
testicular ligament; anchors testis to inferior part of scrotum limiting movement
if no gubernaculum
no descent of testes or ovaries
remnants of gubernaculum in females
ovarian ligament and round ligament which both support
mcc of hydronephrosis in infants and children
ureteropelvic junction obstruction; more common in boys, ass w other cong abnor,
sclerosing retroperitoneal fibrosis
fibrous proliferativ einflam process that encases the retrop structures resulting in hydronephrosis
mcc of acquired bladder diverticula
prostatic enlargement resulting in increased intravesical pressure/muscle thickening

most asymtomatic but predispose to infx and bladder calculi
extrophy
dev failure of ant wall o fbladder and abdomen

exposed mucosaincreased risk of adenocarcinoma oin the balder remnant
urine coming out of umbilicus
urachal fistula (canal that connets fetal bladder w the allantois

urachal cyst = small remnant
urachal sinus = larger remnant, can still connect bladder to umbilicus
