How do you test for sulfates? |
•Make a solution of your suspected sulfate in pure water. •Add dilute Hydrochloric acid to make it acidic •Then add some Barium Chloride Solution •Sulfate will produce white percipitate of Barium Sulfate |
|
Why do you Acidify the solutions in the tests for Chlorides,Bromides,Iodides and Sulfates |
To destroy ofmther compounds an that react with the silver nitrate or the Barium Chloride to make a similar percipitate |
|
How do you test for Chlorides,Bromides and Iodides? |
•Make a solution of you suspected (Chloride,Bromide or Iodide) •Add dilute nitric acid to acidify •Then add Silver Nitrate to the solution •It will form a White percipitate(Chloride) Cream percipitate(Bromide) or Yellow percipitate(Iodide) |
