Layout of instruments in T-scan

Airspeed Indicator (ASI), Attitude Indicator (AI), Altimeter (ALT), Heading Indicator (HI)

How do you know if you are using the radio?

The light for COM1 or COM2 will appear on the ICS panel when you presd the transmit switch on the PCL.

If using the single standby VHF radio, COM2 light will still illuminate, and a transmission indicator will appear on the screen of the standby radio. UFCP will read 'REMOTE'.

Acronyms DTS DVRS & HOTAS

Data Transfer System

Digital Video Recorder System

Hands On Throttle And Stick

G Meter indications

Shows G readouts. Needle turns red if exceeded G-Limit. Red Carot appears and stays if structural limits exceeded, only maintenance can reset.

What does the ID button on the UFCP do?

Squaks your ID on transponder.

Difference between how Mag and True bearings shows on headings?

On PFD there is a small T next to the bearing for True, and a degree symbol if Mag.

What are the three conditions for RADALT to be active?

At or below 2500ft AGL, less than 30 deg bank, less than 15 deg pitch

Explain Coastal Refraction NDB errors?

Radio waves transmitting out over land and water bend due to refraction when they change medium. Causes an unstable reading.

What approaches does the T-6C have fitted?

GPS, ILS, DME, ADT, VOR.

Does not have TACAN.

International Distress Frequencies?

Guard/DME: 121.5MHz

Obsolete: 243.0 MHz

SARSAT: 406.0 MHz

What EPIRBs does the T-6C have?

3. Both transmit on 121.5 and 406.0 MHz.

1 ELT in the tail, activated manually or by G-forces.

2 PLBs, one in each seat, activated upon ejection.

What does 'Fly-To' mean for ILS pips?

It means that you should fly towards the direction of the pips.

If glideslope is up, you are too low.

If localizer is left, you are too far right.

Does Backup Flight Instrument have Turn and Slip Indicator

Yes

Where does Backup Flight Instrument get it's heading data from?

It has its own independent source. Does not get data from the Air Data Computer or the Flux in the right wing.

Explain the difference between bearing and radial?

Bearing is direction from me to something.

Radial is oriented to magnetic north.

E.g. VOR angles are not bearings.

How are DME's tuned?

They are paired automatically when using VOR. Manually set for ADF.

How do new EICAS alerts show up?

Master warning/Master caution, aural tone, CAS messages

UFCP persistent menu is called? And shows? And what buttons

The home screen.

Shows COM1, COM2, NavAid, and TXponder.

Either hold RTRN, or wait until it goes by itself.

Hitting PFD on UFCP gives what 4 items?

QNH, Alt Bug, RadAlt Bug, Speed Bug

How to activate the ELT in the T-6C?

Either manually, or G-activated.

What does flicking the repeat switch on the UFCP do?

Shows the other cockpits screens repeated to ours.

How many Air Data Computers are there in the T-6C?

Two. Primary, and secondary for BFI.

T-6C Radio freqency band?

VHF: 118.0MHz to 151.975MHz. Increments of 8.33 and 25 KHz.

What radio is powered on when we turn on 'REMOTE'?

The secondary single UHF.

Frequency range and increments of COm1 & COM2?

118.0 to 151.975 MHz (VHF) range

8.33 and 25.0 KHz increments.

What frequency is known as GUARD, and how might you turn into it with the Standby UHF?

121.5 MHz, hold SELECT for 7 seconds.

Range the MFD screens in order of importance.

PFD, EICAS, NAV/TSD.

What are the relevant ranges for TCAS on the Nav MFD?

5, 10, 20, 40, 80, 160, 320 nm.

Blue dots show up under 10 nm, incidiate 2nm from the aircraft.

What are the three display formats for the Nav screen?

Rose map, Rose plan, Arc map.

How much time can 'the brick' record?

120 minutes.

How does CAS prioritize messages?

Based on risk. Most risk top left, to least risk in bottom right. Red for warnings, amber for caution, green for condition, white for status.

What fault will not trigger a CAS message?

Fire, it has its own alert system.

When does the stickshaker activate?

Over 15-16 AOA, and 5-10 kts above stall speed.

When does the aural G-warning trigger?

0.5G before the limit.

Does TCAS use radar? Can it detect all aircraft?

No, it relies on transponders to broadcast.

Can you use TCAS as a sole method to steer clear of other aircraft?

No, not all aircraft have TCAS fitted and functional. Should be used to supplement/guide visual scans.

What are the TCAS range limits?

Normal: +2700ft/-2700ft.

Above: +8700ft/-2700ft.

Below: +2700ft/-8700ft.

Explain TCAS symbology.

Non threat: Unfilled white diamond.

Proximity Intruder traffic (might need action) : Filled white diamond.

Traffic advisory (needs action): filled yellow circle.

Had arrow indicating relative direction, and number indicating hundreds of feet altitude differential.

What are the fields in the transponder screen on the UFCP?

Active/Standby (requires confirmation), the 4 digit code, and whether altitude is reported or not.

If suffix STDBY then on Standby, if ALT then reporting ALT, if just code then Active but not ALT.

What are the transponder codes?

Mode A - Code and Position.

Mode C - Code, Position, and Altitude.

Mode S - All previous, additional information and TCAS.
