Define the Civil Rights Act

The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964 and signed into law by Lyndon B. Johnson. The CRA mandated that segregation was not lawful in general public. It removed barriers for voting rights, attending schools, and outlawed discrimination based on sex, race, religious beliefs and national origin.

Define the Age Discrimination in Employment Act

This act was passed in 1967 to outlaw discrimination of workers based on their age. The law was put in place to employ all people based on their abilities and not their age. It was also made illegal to segregate employees based on age, pay a lower wage or classify an employee based only on age. It also outlawed labor unions from denying membership to people passed on their age.

Americans with Disabilities Act

Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibits private employers, state and local governments, employment agencies and labor unions from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities in job application procedures, hiring, firing, advancement, compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment. The ADA covers employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and to labor organizations.

What is that Equal Employment Opportunity Commission?

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.
