What runs off the Battery Bus |
1.Fire extinguishers(engines and apu) 2.Fuel and Hydraulic shut off valves 3. Refuel Defuel shut off valve 4. Dome lights 5. Boarding lights 6. PA emergency power |
If running off battery, How long can battery last. |
30min at 40amps (20 amps = 60min) (80amps = 15min) |
If switch on Main battery switch, which bus is powered? |
Essential bus (And fixed AC (inverters) power avionics) (as well as battery bus always powered) |
If switch on Aux switch, which bus will be powered? |
Essential bus |
Which buses have to be powered to have all of the flight deck powered up? |
Essential and right main bus? |
What is max load of the APU DC generator? |
300amps |
When is the only time all bus ties are closed? |
On the ground. (If GPU plugged in or APU generator powering the aircraft) |
How many temperature sensors are installed on each battery? |
2 (one to sensor gauge and one to warnings) |
What is Fixed AC primarily used for? And how many inverters required to power the Fixed AC system? |
Avionics 1 |
How many batteries does the aircraft have? |
2 |
Which buses are powered with the Battery Master and Main Batt ON (plus Main Bus Tie ON) |
Essential (& Fixed AC) & Right and Left Main buses |
How do we get battery power to the left main buses? |
Main bus tie ON (On the ground its manual, in air the mouse takes over) |
What voltage should we see on the DC monitor with external DC power on? |
28V (don't want to see less voltage than the batterys 24V as it will be draining) |
Which buses will be powered with DC external power supplying the aircraft? |
All (All ties closed automatically when GPU or APU Generator is on) |
DC generator limits |
flight 1.0 ground 0.7 (air cooled, less air flow on ground)
flight 1.0 |
TRU limits |
1.0 flight 1.0 ground (fan cooled, maintains temp) |
AC generator limits |
Flight 1.0 Ground below 10°C 1.0 above 10°C 0.33 (oil cooled, oil is already warm) |
Will external DC power charge the batteries |
Yes if External voltage is higher than Internal voltage And Aux & Main switches ON |
Will APU charge batteries |
Yes if Aux & Main Batt switches ON |
What is minimum battery voltage required for engine start |
22V |
At what voltage does the over-voltage protection lock out DC external power |
31.5V |
Can external power and the entire DC gen be on line at the same time |
No. External power turns off the DC generators |
If a DC generator fails will the opposite main bus be powered |
Yes (horizontal ties close first) |
How are DC generators cooled |
Air cooling (hence 200amps on ground due less airflow but 300 amps in flight) (APU has a fan so can maintain 300amps on ground) |
If the main buses are powered are the essential buses automatically powered |
Yes |
Will the AC generators be online with the props in feather |
No |
The AC generators provide power to which buses |
Left and Right Variable AC buses (Heaters and pumps) |
If an AC generator failed in flight would the opposite AC bus be powered |
Yes (mouses wife) |
Which buses are powered directly by the TRU's |
Secondary buses |
What is the input and output power of the TRU |
115V Variable AC to 28V DC |
How can a TRU be turned off |
CB |
If one TRU fails will both secondary buses be powered? |
Yes, mouse pulls bottom horizontal tie (secondary bus tie) |
If both TRU's fail will there secondary buses be powered |
Yes, mouse pulls both vertical bus ties |
What does DC logic control |
Bus Ties |
What is the priority for DC logic |
Horizontal ties before vertical, Vertical can only be together, Horiz and Very can't be together. Only time all bus ties are closed is when GPU or APU are operating the aircraft. |
"DC BUS" caution indicates what? |
BBPU detects current greater than 400amps and opens all bus ties (to protect equipment). After 7 seconds it disconnects affected Generator and Battery. |
What is the primary function of the DC bus fault reset switch |
It resets BBPU and returns to bus tie logic (Restores normal operation of fault has been rectified). (BBPU remains ready in back ground) |
Loss of both DC generators procedure requires switching off all battery switches. What is supplying power to the DC system? What will happen if one of these fails? |
TRU's.
Lose cockpit electricity only (mouse releases vert ties and pulls the secondary tie) |
Which bus powers the arm switch for emergency lighting |
Right Secondary bus |
What does Fixed AC power |
Avionics and Flight Instruments (Inverters powered off Essential Bus, as long as Essential Bus has power you will have Avionics) (As long as have 1 inverter you have power to all Avionics) |
What does Variable AC power? |
Heaters and pumps (non critical equipment. It's not accurate enough for avionics) |
When does bus tie logic work? |
When there is Generator power. With Battery power we need to close main bus tie manually. |
What does Secondary bus power? |
Cabin (lights) |
What is the ground service power switch? |
Used to power secondary bus so cabin lights can stay on for cleaners at night
