Explain radical polymerisation with dibenzoyl peroxide. |
Initiation: the dibenzoyl peroxide splits up by UV light into two reactive radicals. Propagation: the radicals attack the monomer. The product is a new radical. This attacks another monomer. Longer chain. |
What is required for a monomer? |
Multiple bonds or at least two functional groups. |
What types of reactions ocurr to link different monomers? |
Polymerisation,polycondensation and polyaddition. |
What is a Polymer? |
Huge chains of organic repeating units called monomers. |
What is a monomer? |
They can bond to each other on each side. |
Name the steps of esterification. |
Activation, addition, elimination, stabilisation |
Explain esterification. |
It needs a catalyst. Then the alcohol comes to play. Remember that you need carboxylic acid. |
Saponification is the reaction of an.... To an.... |
Ester...alcohol and incomplete acid. |
What is a thermoset,Thermoplast and elastomer? |
What is the functional group in Polymerisation? |
The double bond. |
What is polycondensation? |
Depending on the functional group the monomer becomes a different plastic. A small molecule is given off at the end. |
We have a bifunctional and trifunctional monomer reacting through polycondensation. What properties do the plastics have? |
A bifunctional monomer results in a thermoplast. A trifunctional monomer results in a thermoset. |
Which functional group is necessary to result in a polyester through polycondensation? |
Hydroxy group. OH |
Which functional group do we need for a Polyamide (polycondensation) |
Amide group. NH2 |
Which functional group do we need to result in polycarbonate?( Polycondensation) |
Phosgene |
In conclusion. What can result through polycondensation? |
Polyester. Polyamide. Polycarbonate |
The functional group of a polyester is? |
Ester group. |
The functional group of a Polyamide ist? |
A peptide group. |
Polyaddition requires what stupid? |
Monomer with functional groups added to the double bonds. |
What is the product of a polyaddition? |
Polyurethane |
What happens in polyaddition. Ya dumb |
