Symbolic and literal.

Symbolic

-There is no longer any need for animalsacrifices because of the perfect and final sacrifice of Christ. According toRevelation 21:22, there will be no temple in the New Jerusalem.

-They believe that these prophecies werefulfilled in the past by the Jews who returned to the land after the exile.

-They believe that these prophecies will befulfilled in the future, not in a literal sense by the nation of Israel, but ina spiritual sense by the church which replaced or succeeded Israel as thecovenant people of god.

Literal

-There is great detail here, which seems odd ifit is only symbolic. The animal sacrifices prophesied may be memorial innature, looking back on the perfect and final sacrifice of Christ. There willindeed be not temple in the New Jerusalem in the eternal state as described inRevelation 21, but Ezekiel is describing the Jerusalem of the earthly Messianickingdom for the eternal state.

- They believe that Israel and the Church continueto be distinct in God’s program – 2 covenant peoples of God. They believe thatEzekiel 40-48 describes the fulfillment of all of God’s covenant promises toIsrael and the physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
