What do you actually observe in a "postive KI-starch test"? What does it mean when it is mentioned at the end of the first paragraph in the Experimental Procedure that the KI-Starch test is positive?
In a "positive KI-starch test" the white starch paper turns from it's white color to a blue -black color. And if the KI-starchtest proves to positive as stated in the experiment procedure it mean that there is an excess amount of the oxidizing agent left in the reaction mixture.
What is the purpose of adding NaHSO3at the end of the oxidtaion? Write a balanced equation for the reaction it undergoes.
In adding NaHSO3 at the end of oxidation is to quesnch the excess HOCl that is produced at the end of the end of the reaction, this is the purpose NaHSO3.

It involves the use of a reducing agent (sodium borohydride)for converting a ketone (camphor) to a secondary alcohol(isoborneol).
Explain why the gem-dimethyl groups appear as separate peaks in the proton NMR spectrum of isoborneol while thy are an unresolved singlet in borneol.
This is because isoborneol is an exo-isomer of borneol therefore since proton NMR look at the proton and since isoborneol is exo it has mnore proton available to be ssen through NMR.
The reduction imechanism is often shown with a hydride (H:-)ion attacking the carbonyl carbon. Why might one assign a partial negative charge to the hydorgems in sodium borohydride?
