The Zecuity patch is unique. It is an iontophoretic transdermal system (like Ionsys for pain). These patches require detailed counseling because they are quite different from patches most people are used to. The patch contains lithium batteries and cannot be worn during MRI. It is indicated as abortive treatment and not for prophylaxis. |

The ergot products are pregnancy Category X and contain a boxed warning not to use with strong/moderate CYP 3A4 inhibitors (such as cimetidine) due to the risk of cerebral ischemia with higher drug levels. Cafergot (as you may have guessed from the name) is an older ergotamine formulation + caffeine. It has the same boxed warning regarding 3A4 interactions. |
