Hector Berlioz accomplishments and life

french composer. After going to college he decided that he wanted to be a musician instead of a doctor or lawyer like his parents wanted him to do. His father was fine with it but his mother pleaded with him to not become a musician. (musicians were seen as modern prostitution rings.) He would not give into his mother and so she cut him off financially. He returned to paris to work as a critic.

Hector Berlioz and love and compositions

fell in love with a woman from the Shakespeare players. She was english and he did not know any english. He wanted to tell her he loved her so he wrote a 5 movement piece for her telling the way he felt about her. This piece is the earliest form of program music. This music had a story that was told trough the music and not through any words. After hearing the piece she went back stage and they agreed that night that they wanted to get married. They were divorced 5 years later. Romantic period focused on the obsession of having someone but not the marriage in long term.

Carmen french opera
|
in this opera carmen is a gypsy that is in love with a military officer. She seduces him and finally gets him to leave the army. after he leaves though she is not as interested in don jose and now more interested in a bull fighter. Don jose sings more on the beat and slowly changes to have more passion in his singing. Carmen sings more freely and dance like rhythms . The dances in the opera are variations of different spanish dances. the music has many ranges sometimes having carmen go lower then don jose.

in the opera violetta is a prostitute who is in love with a man named alfredo. he also loves her but his father does not like her. Alfredo father pursued violetta to leave alfredo so he can be everything he wants to be. she leaves alfredo and goes to an old boyfriend of hers. he humiliates violetta by publicly trough money at her. she misses alfredo and is dying. alfredo then shows up and they sing for 20 minutes before she dies.
