What is a beat?

Described as two sound waves with different frequencies, that interfere and result in differences in amplitude with respect to time

What is the average frequency?

The difference between the initial frequencies of two sound waves. It is an average of the two frequencies: (F1 + F2) / 2 where F1= frequency of first wave and F2=frequency of the second wave

What is the beat frequency?

When two waves with different frequencies are added together, the resulting amplitude oscillates at a rate of the difference between the two frequencies

Beat frequency = | F1 - F2 | (absolute value)

A wave of 655 Hz is added to a wave of 650 Hz, what is the average frequency?

F1 + F2 /2

(655 Hz + 650 Hz)/2 = 652.5 Hz

A wave of 655 Hz is added to a wave of 650 Hz, what is the beat frequency?

|F1 - F2|

|655 Hz-650 Hz|= 5 Hz
