A part of the peace treaty agreement after WW1, stated that Britain had agreed to keep some troops in Chanak. Their task was to keep the Dardanelles, strairs that linked the Black Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, a neutral territory. In 1922, the Turkish forces threaten the British troops. Mackenzie King refused the British request for help, and therefore announced Canada would no longer commit to fight at Britain's side whenever the British demand.
