stereotype
a social phenomenon, generalization about a group of people in which identical characteristics are assigned to virtually all members of the group, regardless of actual variation among the members of the group -- can be positive or negative, doesn't involve emotional reactions, does not necessarily lead to intentional acts of abuse or discrimination
prejudice
an attitude with an emotional response, positive or negative evaluation of people, places, or ideas
