Subject

Names what the sentence is about

Predicate

Says something about the subject or describes an action by the subject, has a verb

Simple Subject

Just the noun or pronoun

~ Same as the indirect object in that it tells us for or to whom the action of the verb is preformed but it follows a preposition

Linking Verb

~Not an action verb


~ Links the object to the description following

A word or word group that completes the meaning of a subject or an object

~ Follows a linking verb and describes the subject and may be an adjective,noun, or pronoun


~ Adjective Complement: predicate adjective


~ Noun Complement: predicate nominate/predicate noun

~ Follows and describes a direct object; may be an adjective or noun
