Data protection

Legal rights to any information an employer may hold on them, applies when concerning CCTV, telephone calls and emails.

Impact

Employers; allows them to monitor crime/theft or inadequate work however must disclose all information held as can be taken to court.


Employees; feel secure as information must be kept private.

Minimum wage

A law that stops employers paying employees any less than a specific amount. Over 25= £7.50

Impacts

Employers; a small company may not be able to survive by paying this wage, resulting in hiring less employees.


Employees; ensures that in any job, employees will earn enough to sustain basic necessities.

Sex and age discrimination

Equality act makes it illegal to discriminate against anyone based on age, race, disability (unless physically unable to complete the work even with adjustments made).


Sex discrimination act makes it illegal to discriminate against the sex and marital status of a job seeker.

Impact

Employer; needs to make sure that any redundancies are not seen as discrimination. Must be prepared to fire or suspend employees if they break the act to another employee.


Employee; makes them feel safe and secure.

Health and safety act

To protect the employees and public. Risk assessments are required to ensure harm is avoided.

Impact

Employer; satisfies safety needs to employees from maslows hierarchy, increasing motivation.


Employee; if they were to be injured then there is security knowing that they can take legal action.

Contract of employment

An agreement between employee and employer, is drawn out so that both parties know their legal rights and duties.

Employment act

Prevents compensation in cases of under/non payment, in order to enforce minimum wage. Also introduced adequate notice for dismissle. This is done through access to trade unions

Impact

Employer; forces them to pay minimum wage.


Employee; maternity/paternity laws are better. Ensures employees are being fairly paid.
