Criteria for atrial rhythms |
-marching upright Ps, atrial rate >160 at rest OR - no Ps at all; wavy or sawtooth baseline between QRSs present instead OR - P waves of > or equal to 3 different shapes OR - premature abnormal P wave (with or without QRS) interrupting another rhythm OR - heart rate > or equal to 130, rhythm regular, P waves not discernible (May be present but not sure) WAP |
|
Wandering Atrial Pacemaker (WAP)/ Multifocal Atrial Tachycardia (MAT) |
-WAP and MAT are rhythms that occur when the peacemaking impulses originate from at least 3 different foci in the atria - each focus produces its own unique P wave, resulting in a rhythm with at least 3 different shapes of P waves - WAP is slow -MAT is fast - they’re the same rhythm just with different heart rates |
|
WAP rate |
Mean rate <100, usually 50-60 |
|
MAT rate |
Mean rate >100 |
|
WAP/MAT regularity |
Irregular |
