Acetylcysteine

Mucolytic expectorant that is also the antidote for acetaminophen toxicity

Atropine

Anticholinergic drug that also prevents bronchoconstriction

Butorphanol

Centrally acting antitussive; used more commonly as preanesthetic and analgesic

Dextromethorphan

OTC non-narcotic antitussive; not very effective in animals

Diphenhydramine

Antihistamine drug that works best when used preventatively

Respiratory stimulant used most commonly in neonates after c-sections or dystocias

Works as both positive inotrope and vasodilator; trade name is Vetmedin

Benzaperil

ACE inhibitor commonly used in veterinary medicine; trade name is Fortekor

Dopamine

Positive inotrope- precursor to norepinephrine; used for emergency treatment of heart failure or hypotension, especially under anesthesia

Lidocaine

Class 1B antiarrhythmic drug (membrane stabilization)- one of the most commonly used antiarrhythmic drugs (be sure does not contain epinephrine)

Heparin

Anticoagulant commonly used in blood vials or can be diluted to flush IV catheters to prevent clotting

Aspirin

Inhibits thromboxane and prevents platelet aggregation; can be given to cats with cardiomyopathy to help prevent thromboembolism, but should only be given every 3 days at low doses

Digoxin

Cardiac glycoside- positive inotrope

Erythropoietin

Protein made by kidneys that stimulates production of red blood cells
