What is Civics? |
The study of how public decisions are made, of issues that are important to the public, and of the rights and responsibilities of citizens. |

What are Values? |
Beliefs about what is most important or valuable in life. |

What is Government? |
A decision-making system that has the power to make laws and direct the affairs of a country, province, or municipality. The word comes from latin and greek words that mean "to steer". |

What is Civil Society? |
Voluntary organizations of citizens that work to make a difference on important public issues. |

What is a Pluralist Society? |
A society in which different groups with a range of beliefs can influence political life. |

What is Ideology? |
A set of beliefs and values, especially about how society should be organized and what goals it should persue. |

What is Autocracy? |
A system of Government in which one person holds all political power to govern the country. Ex. North Korea, Syria, Kazakhstan |

What is Oligarchy? |
A system of Government in which a small group of people such as a Family Dynasty or a political group hold all political power to govern the country.
Ex. Saudi Arabia, Kuwaut, etc. |

What is Democracy? |
A system in which decisions are controlled by the people. In greek it means demo, "people", cracy, "rule". Ex. Canada, Japan, Germany |

What are Rights and Freedoms? |
Those things we are morally or legally entitled to have or do. |

What is Majority Rule? |
The principle that the opinion of the greater number should prevail. |

What are Minority Rights? |
The principle that the rights of the minority must be safeguarded. |

What is Concensus? |
A collective decision to which all parties must agree. |
|
What is Responsibility? |
A duty or obligation. As citizens, we all have responsibilities, often directly linked to our rights. |

What is Rule of Law? |
The principle that people are governed by laws and that no person is above the law. |

What is Theocracy? |
A system of Government in which religious law or scripture rules the country and the leader of the country is a religious leader. Ex. Vatican City |
