Damaged RBC Promotion of bacterial growth |

30 minutes (discard after this) |

Indications for PRBC |
Traumatic cardiac arrest Severe TBI with associated haemorrhagic hypovolaemia and SBP <120mmHg Haemorrhagic hypovolaemia Non TBI SBP < 70 altered conscious state. |

Contraindication to PRBC |
Religious objections to blood products Children <18 years (not married) without parental consent. |

IO or IV via blood filter giving set |

For rapid administration: |
Get crew to squeeze bag Or: pressure bag. |

Prime line and flush after blood with: |
Normal saline |

Monitor these signs every 15/60 |

Following 4 units of PRBC: |
Administer Calcium Gluconate 4.4mmol (2gm) IV over 2-5 minutes. |

Don’t administer this fluid concurrently: |
Dextrose 5% |

Transfusion reactions occur in: |
1-3% of patients |
