  • Back

Angular

Involving rotation around a central line or point

axis of rotation

Imaginary line perpendicular to the plane of rotation and passing through the center of rotation.

Linear

Along a line that may be straight or curved ,with all parts ofthe bodyh moving in the same direction at the same speed

Longitudinal Axis

imaginary line passing from top to bottom through the body and around which transverse plane rotation occurs

Sagittal plane movements

Flexion, extension and hyperextension, dorsiflexion and plantar flexion

Frontol plane movements

Abduction, adduction, lateral flexion, elevation, dpression, inversion, eversion & radial/ulnar deviation

Transverse plane movements

Left and Right rotation, medial lateral rotation, supination, pronation, horizontal abduction/adduction

General Motion

Involving translation and rotation simultaniously.

Sagittal axis

Imaginary line passing front to back through the bod and arond which frontal plane rotations ocur

Frontal Axis

Imaginary line pasing through the body from side to side and around which saggital plane rotations occur.

Transverse Plane

Horizontal body movements occur when body is in standing motion

Frontal Plane

Lateral movements of the body an a body segement occurs

Saggital PLane

Forward and backward movements of the body and of body segments occur

Cardinal Planes

Three imaginary perpendicular regerences planes that divide the body in half by mass

Deep

Inside the bodt and away from the surface

Superficial

towards the surface of the body

Distal

At a distance from the trunk

Proximal

Closer in proximity to the trunk

Lateral

Away from the midline of the body

Medial

Towards the midline of the body

Posterior

Towards the back of the body

INferior

Farther from the head

Anterior

Towards the front of the body

Superior

Closer to the head

Curvilinear

Along a curved line

Rectilinear

Along a straight line

Translation

AKA linear motion
