Awkward state 2 |
Will be ordered when short notice warning that the ship may be subjected to an impending clandestine attack is received. Essentially state 3 is used to hold the situation while state 2 (or 1) is implemented. If prior knowledge of a potential hostile situation is held or an attack has taken place the ship will proceed straight to state 2 or 1 |

Will be ordered in ports or anchorages known to contain hostile elements, or when intelligence reports indicate attack is about to take place. The aim is to provide an active deterrent against possible sneak attack, with an increase in lookouts, boat patrols, scare charges etc. The visible look of readiness and professionalism about the ship will go a long way to deter potential aggressors |

Will be ordered when actual evidence of attack has been obtained (sighting of bubbles etc) or when reliable intelligence suggests an attack is imminent. It can be considered the equivalent of ordering action stations when the ship is at sea. The priority in this state is to sail the ship |
