Introduce myself - Matt - apprentice design engineer - stockport |
Hi everyone my name's Matt and I'm currently an apprentice design engineer based in stockport |
First of all, congratulations getting through procurement stages - only 12 months ago I was in same position |
So I know how you all must be feeling |
I'm gonna talk about my first 12 months in business |
Next card |
First couple of weeks, numerous training courses, useful for transitioning into company |
Next card |
Following these somewhat intense weeks, nice to have a detox as we went on residential |
For us in Scotland. great way to get to know other apprentices more personal level, Farhaan will talk more about Scotland after |
After the residential, we all went respective sites |
Since then I have done stints within my team with each section - overhead, underground and plant. |
Working with these sections - realised everyone is so willing to help |
Whenever I have been unsure of anything I'm not given the short answer, but am explained in a way in which I understand fully and can use the knowledge going forwards |
Examples where I've been able to apply new knowledge is link box replacement programme and smart street |
Link box replacement program involves assessing aging underground assets and replacing them in order to create a more efficient and reliable network |
Explain smart street and benefit |
Smart street I'm currently working on - involves replacing transformers with with ones able to remotely change tapping - amongst many benefits, one is all the current locations we are planning on replacing are in fuel deprived areas and the replacements will mean reduced electricity bills in these areas lessening the financial strains on those residents |
And that's my first 12 months |
:) point at whoever is speaking next and say and now xxxx will have a few words |
