What are the four eons?
Hadean
Archean
Proterozoic
Phanerozoic
What is the Geologic Time Scale?
The Geologic Time Scale divides Earth's history of 4.6 billion years into subgroups that make arranging geologic events more orderly.
Planetary Differentiation
Process in which dense materials sank toward the center of Earth while less dense materials rose, developing into layers.
Plate boundaries
Places where plates meet. Also where earthquakes occur, volcanoes can be found, and ridges and mountain ranges form.
What are transform boundaries?
Where tectonic plates slide past each other along transform faults.
Strike-Slip Fault
Movement of the fault is horizontal. Either sinstral (If block on the other side of the observer moves left) or dextral (if the block on the other side moves right).
Transform faults act this way.
How are earthquakes created?
Sometimes rocks along faults will get "stuck" and if friction prevents the rocks from sliding by smoothly, pressure builds up. This pressure builds up to the point where it suddenly snaps, creating what we know as a earthquake.
Planetary Differentiation
Process in which dense materials sank toward the center of Earth while less dense materials rose, developing into layers.
Plate boundaries
Places where plates meet.

Plate boundaries are also where earthquakes occur, volcanoes can be found, and ridges and mountain ranges form.

Three different types of boundaries:
Transform
Convergent
Divergent
