Function of gall bladder

It stores the bile produced in liver. When needed it is transported to duodenum. Especially needed when we ingested foods that are fatty or difficult to digest.

Why is bile essential for digestion ?

It emulsifies fats derived from or food to make it readily available for our body.

Neutralizes acidic chyme before it travels from stomach to small intestine.

Helps to discard contaminants like heavy metals or toxins.

What route does bile take on way through body?

Coming from liver and gall bladder, bile arrives at small intestines through bile ducts. Here, gall salts (bile acid) emulsify fat derived from ingested food.

A certain portion of bile reaches large intestine (where it gets excreted with stool) the rest is transported back to liver through portal vein. Here, the salts are recycled and mixed with new bile whenever we consume fatty foods. Then they are released to small intestine again.

Which aspect highlights the importance of bile acids to body?

After fulfilling its function, bile acid gets returned to liver instead of being discarded.

What measure can you take to prevent gallstones?

Consume only fats of high quality, small amounts of sugar, only rarely animal proteins

Alcohol and other stimulants only in moderation

Avoid use of synthetic hormones (birth control pill)

Drink certain teas to support bile flow

Consume curcuma regularly

Express emotions instead of suppressing them

Would you have objections to removing gall bladder by surgery?

In my opinion, not one organ can be removed without harming our health. If gall bladder is removed, body lacks organ to regulate proper release of bile. This lead to releasing too much or too little bile which both affect our digestion.

Possible symptoms could be an insufficient processing of fats from ingested foods. Fat processsing is extremely important since body needs them for different purposes apart from energy production.

Entire body depends on well-functioning digestive system and a sufficient supply with high-quality fats. Therefore removal of gall bladder should be considered very wisely.
