Why Littering Should Be Avoided

Water is a prevalent feature of Earth, in which about 70 percent of it covers the entire planet’s surface. In addition, water is vital to the development of life and the maintenance of many living organisms, including humans. The waters are filled with numerous aquatic species, including different kinds of fishes, turtles, crabs, corals, and other large mammals. One of the problems many marine animals face is the pollution invading their homes due to the carelessness and ignorance of human beings. For instance, numerous people scatter their plastic trash, aluminum cans, and other forms of litter on beaches, which tides can pull in with its currents. Since the Earth is home to numerous animals, humans should take more responsibility and be more reluctant to dispose their trash on the sidewalk or the beach. The worst part of littering the ocean is that it affects marine organisms by increasing their mortality rate, forcing some species into extinction, and decreasing the biodiversity of animals. Therefore, as intellectuals able understand the importance of the preservation of animals, people should appreciate the variety of organisms in oceans and the proteins extracted from these waters to consume. In addition, people should improve the cleanliness of oceans in order to prevent the extinction of species, reduce the endangerment of animals, and avoid habitat changes within ecosystems. If negative changes within the ecosystem persist, other alterations to the environment will arise and in turn, affect the human population. In addition, since the oceans provide people with an abundant amount resources, such as water, food, and oxygen, they should attempt to protect and preserve the oceans for future
