Paragraph 1 (Story): The storyline of Macbeth is not relevant to modern audiences. The plot is about a general who is prophesised to become kings, kills the king, goes mad in process and is eventually overthrown. This is seen where Banquo says to Macbeth: “You shall be king” (Act 1, Scene 3). Kings, queens, princess, princes and witches are irrelevant as modern day audiences prefer movies and books etc that reflect on the current world. Lady Macbeth is a character that modern audiences cannot connect to. Macbeth was a powerful and noble character but easily tempted into crimes and murdering from Lady Macbeth. Modern day audiences feel sympathy for Macbeth’s guilt of killing King Duncan but Lady Macbeth did not care. This can be seen where Macbeth was referred to as noble by Lennox: “Good morrow, noble sir” (Act 2, Scene 3). Lady Macbeth was very cruel and lusts for power. This is seen where she says: “I would, while it was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums and dashed the drains out, had I sworn” (Act 2, Scene 7). This illustrates modern audiences cannot relate to Lady Macbeth but can relate to Macbeth.
