Astrology looks towards the planets, stars, and heavenly beings instead of to God. This blatantly defies the First Commandment: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Every person wants to know the future and not fret over it, but God has to reveal the future (Mercier). If God does not reveal the future, one cannot turn to nature and other powers in order to reveal the future (Ibid). A person commits idolatry when they trust “in the stars, rather than in God,” and they are then “engaging in idolatry” (Mayberry “Astrology Fails the Test of the Scripture”). The Scriptures condemn both idolatry and astrology, which falls under the topic of witchcraft, and warn about the fate of these people: the “sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Rev. 21.8). If one turns away from the Scripture with all its condemnations and warning, one turns away from God because the Bible contains God’s words. Furthermore, one who looks to astrology for answers bases his life off the lifeless planets and stars. He, in turning towards created things as deities, does not build his life off God, Who is life, or let God build his life. The person who bases his life off the readings of astrology possibly builds his life off wrongs statements, which the readings of the horoscopes sometimes produce, and most definitely builds is life differently than how God had perfectly planned his life. People who practice astrology are not and cannot be true Christians. If they do claim to be Christians, they lie to God and to themselves.
