The pollution appears to accelerate harmful deposits in the arteries that cause nearly all heart attacks and most strokes (Smith Hopkins A1). This quote by Jamie Smith Hopkins shows what can cause heart attacks and strokes and how pollution is declining people’s health. This tells me how the 57-year-old suffer a heart attack and how the environment affected his death. We should help solve this and make the environment cleaner. Environmental issues are causing health problems in humans because of air pollution and global warming. As the air gets dirtier, water becomes more contaminated and food more tainted, it causes people to become sicker. Global warming has caused diseases to spread by ticks and mosquitoes, which can cause longer allergy seasons and more wave deaths. Also, the warming can cause more asthma because of heat, allergens, and air pollution (Borenstein). Meanwhile, global warming and air pollution have caused many to lose their lives, air pollution caused 5.5 million deaths each year (Fears A3), while global warming caused 300,000 deaths a year. These numbers will rise if we do not reduce air pollution. As the air is dirty, water contaminated, and food tainted people have more illnesses. The outside environment caused many health problems in humans. Some include asthma, cardiovascular problems, and other lung health problems. Asthma is a disease that narrows the airways in the lungs. It can cause wheezing, breathing difficulties, and chest tightness. Asthma can flare up with exposure to dust, air pollution, and stress. However, these conditions are worse for the people who live near an area where oil and gas drilling are taking place (Tanner). When air quality is unhealthy, people with asthma should limit outdoor activity. Also, asthma can affect pregnant women. Maternal asthma is associated with a higher risk of pregnancy complication and problems for babies (“Air Pollution”). With the air pollution outside it causes many to have health problems. While the outside environment is getting people sick, many researchers are studying and testing it. ESCAPE (European Study of Cohorts of Air Pollution Effects) investigates the effects on human health of air pollution in Europe. This study has set up a campaign with the theme of Breathe Clean Air, it promotes awareness and educates people about the importance of healthy lungs and clean air free from particles (“Poor European Air”). In another study, it stated that 90 percent of the world’s children live in places with polluted air (Carrington 2). Meanwhile, researchers say that exposure to black carbon impacts on women’s blood pressure, which also affects cardiovascular risk. It says that women living close to highways and exposed to black carbon have three times higher blood pressure than women who live farther away from highways (“Black Carbon”). Many great researchers are studying and searching for the causes and the effects of air pollution and global warming. As the world is becoming warmer and warmer every day many bad things occur. The man-made global warming is making America sick (Borenstein), and it will get worse. It has caused the Zika virus to its rise, it is likely to have increased the ranges and speed of the mosquitoes’ life cycle. The climate change is the factor in the string of disease outbreaks affecting people and animals. Thus, the Zika virus has spread to many parts of the …show more content…
This quotation proves that there is a connection between El Nino condition and the weather in Sri Lanka. It tells me that the condition caused fever epidemics in some parts of Sri Lanka. This could have happened because of global warming, causing it to rain more and temperatures to rise in Sri Lanka. Thus, there was at least 50 mm of rain per week and increasing temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius or higher. The relationship between rainfall and dengue found around 6 to 10 weeks, following rainfalls of more than 300 mm per week (“El Nino Conditions”). Because of this, the weather outdoors has caused many
