Have you ever wondered what it would be like if your school switched to year round schooling? If so, there are many good reasons to favor going school year round. First, it would lessen our summer learning loss effect to a great extent. Secondly, summer education programs that are used to get kids back into the swing of things would no longer be needed. Lastly, short breaks allow students to recharge themselves for the weeks to come. Over the summer, students lose their focus on schooling for many months at a time. They are not enforced to do any work to keep their brains fresh with material learned over the years. Children come back to school refreshed unlike the brain washed students returning after summer break. A middle school teacher, Mary Brown, works at a school in which three week breaks occur every nine weeks (“The Pros and Cons”). After the kids first break she says “They didn’t have the bored, glazed-over look of kids who had been in school for weeks on end with no break in sight.” Students are given just enough time to recharge without losing the knowledge they are gaining during the …show more content…
