Most students and parents disagree with this idea, and it comes off as a negative idea. In reality, this is not the case students who attend year round schooling actually have more time for this. They receive all kinds of breaks throughout the year that they could spend time with their friends or family and go on a family vacation at any time throughout the year not just in the summer. Little do we know year-round schooling has many more advantages than disadvantages, actually a lot of good things can come out of this. When schools had just begun, summers were necessary because children needed to help their families by working on the farm, and helping around the house. Nowadays, as we all know, that is not the case most kids do not help around the house like they use to. They do not come home from school and spend hours in the hay field or in barns like the kids did years ago. The dropout rate for students who go to a year round school is two percent less than the dropout rate for non-year round schooling. Although it is not much it is still a higher rate compared to the schools that do not go year round. (American Library Association) Inside a year round school the breakup of the calendar is a big difference than the schools that do not go year round. Some of the different ways that it is not like the original school year where you have a couple days off here and there. During the year round calendar your fall break, winter break, and spring break you have fifteen days off during that time. Although you only have thirty days off for a summer break you still have much longer breaks throughout the year. (American Library
