Once upon a time, there were a fisherman and his wife who lived together in a huge castle right next to the ocean. Every morning, the fisherman would go out and fish for hours. One day, he was sitting there with his giant hook in the water and he felt a tug. Moments later, he felt a bigger tug. Then again, the tug was so hard, he almost flew out of his chair. He began to reel in and it took forever because whatever it was, was so big and heavy. He reeled it in and it was a giant shark.
Then the shark said to him, "Aw, no please, let me live. I am a prince in the sea. I'm not going to be as tasty as the other fish in the sea, I would not taste good to you.

Everyone ate some delicious food made by the servants and went to bed.
Everything went fine for a month or two and then the woman said, “Listen, the summer is coming and I think we should get a yacht for the ocean. Since, the shark has already given us servants. I think he would be nice enough to give us another wish. You should go back and ask him.”
“Oh honey,” the man said, “I don’t think we need that. We have a little boat back in the shed that will be enough.”

The man said, “I don’t want to make the him angry. It’s going to happen if we keep asking for wishes.”
“Just go right now,” his wife said, “I don’t think he’ll mind.” The man did not want to go, but he didn’t want to tell his wife no and upset her.
When the man had gotten to the sea he said, “Ocean, sea! Ocean, sea! La la le! Shark, shark, in the sea! My wife, my wife Janet, wants not, wants not, what I will, so be it.”
The flounder swam up and said, "What does Janet want now?"
“She wants a yacht for her friends and family in the summertime.”
“Uhg!” The flounder sigher really loud, “I guess I could give her what she wants

In McClay and McAllister’s Why Place Matters they argue that space isn’t as important to society or individuals due to globalization. Globalization happened because of the technological advances of communication and transportation making it easy to move people, products, and ideas. They claim that place is an important aspect to us as individuals because we risk forfeiting the reality of embodiment. We risk the basis for healthy and resilient individual identity. The preconditions for cultivating of people’s virtues is also at risk.…

The definition of default setting by Wallace is our self-centeredness perspective that we are born with from childhood all throughout death. As he said, “There is no experience you have had that you are not the absolute center of.” Wallace speaks of our default setting as a negative way of looking at the world and how we shouldn't look at it like that even though it is deep within our conscious and humans involuntarily use that kind of philosophy to live with throughout their lives. He also speaks of altering that hardwired type of thought and separating from it so we may be able to perceive and examine events…

The Lady and The Shark is a narrative of sorts by Joe Hill. It is from his perspective on events he researched and witnessed to formulate a theory. While reading the article, the first question I had was whether this was an actual theory the author had or was it a story? Joe Hill’s theory has a surreal aspect to it. It seems so unbelievable that I, at first, assumed that the author had fabricated this story for entertainment purposes.…
