CATHETER CARE...Holds catheter near the urethra to prevent tugging on catheter and cleans 3-4 inches away from the urethra down the drainage tube. Cleans with strokes only away from the urethra, uses a clean portion of the wash cloth with each stroke. Does not allow the tube to be pulled at any time during the procedure. PERINEAL CARE FOR A FEMALE...Using water and soapy washcloth (no peri wash), cleans one side of labia from top to bottom using a clean portion (corner) of a washcloth with each stroke. Using water, washcloth and soap (no peri wash) cleans rectal area from front to back with single strokes.
