Black Body Radiation |
The radiation emitted by a perfect black body (a body that absorbs all the radiation that hits it) |
|
Infrared Radiation |
Electromagnetic waves between visible light and microwaves in the electromagnetic spectrum |
|
Specific Heat Capacity |
Energy needed to raise the temperature of 1kg of a substance by 1C |
|
Thermal Conductivity |
Property of a material that determines the energy transfer through it by conduction |
|
Energy Transferred Formula |
Starting reading on joulemeter - final reading on joulemeter |
|
Temperature Change Formula |
Highest temperature - lowest temperature |
|
Specific Heat Capacity Formula |
SHC (J/kg*C) = energy transferred (J) ——————————- Mass (kg) x Temperature Change (*C) |

How does Double Glazing Work? |
Double Glazing is where the windows have two sheets of glass with air in between them. Gas is a bad conductor so it is hard for the heat to use it to pass through and out of the house. The heat has to wait until the gas particles hit the glass, so they can be carried over to the other side. This takes a long time as there are very few particles in the air. |
|
Heat energy Formula |
Mass x specific heat capacity x temperature change |
|
How does Cavity Wall Insulation work? |
The air inside the fibreglass traps the heat and keeps it in the house. |
|
How does Bubble Wrap trap heat? |
Bubble Wrap is a good insulator as the air pockets inside trap heat and slow it down. |
