Three cardinal principals of Phi Delta Theta and how members should live them out |
1st: The cultivation of friendship amoung its members. 2nd: The aquirement individually of a high degree of mental culture. 3rd: The attainment personally of a high standard of morality. Simply stated by Walter B. Palmer as "friendship, sound learning, and rectitude." Friendship: As a member take time to examine the demands of friendship. Ask what can I give rather than ask what is in it for me. A man who is of strong character be just and generous in friendship, lyal and upright. Truthfullness, mutual correction, and fidelity. Sound learning: Can known as intellectual curiosity and a search for truth. A scholarly man must be curios and desire to seek knowledge beyond the surface. Multiple programs are in place to uphold this standard of scholarship. Rectitude: In the sense of our fraternity, it is having behaviors that rest upon that which is both true and good. A commitment to rectitude is a consistent deman to act responsibly and lovingly during one's college days and throughout life. You should go beyond simple dos and donts and having a vertical relationship to god, but extend it horizontally to everyone in life. |
