A vent |
Stainless 1" minimum from wood/concrete |
B Vent |
Aluminum inner wall Can pass through floors, 1" clearance. |
C vent |
No passing through anything 6" minimum clearance |
How do you determine which kind of vent you need? |
BTUs dictate type of vent |
For stacks what is the rule? |
2' higher than anything in 10' |
What type of furnace is 100% efficient? |
Electric |
What is a natural draft furnace? |
Hot air rises, mixes with dilution air to create stack effect.
*Can backdraft |
What is induced draft? |
Pulled out combustion gases to vent |
What is a forced draft furnace? |
Newer, air is pushed out. |
Which types of furnaces have a mechanical draft system? |
Induced draft and forced draft |
How close to supports on venting be? |
Every 3ft |
How much slope is needed for furnace venting? |
1/4" per foot of slope |
What types of ratings do fire dampers have? |
1 1/2 hour and 3 hour |
For a fire resistance rating less than 3 hours, which fire damper rating would you choose? |
Less than 3 hours, use 1 1/2 |
What is tight building syndrome? |
A building contaminated with air, the occupants develop more health problems than average. |
L vent |
BH vent |
BW Vent |
Type BW vents are similar in construction to B Vent except they are oval instead of round, can be installed inside a 2×4 stud wall |
Corrosion as a result of mixing condensed water vapour with carbon dioxide is called what? |
Carbonic acid. It attacks the brick, chimney liner and concrete and accelerates deterioration. |
What does a barometric damper in this position indicate? |
Gate opening inward |
What does a barometric damper in this position indicate? |
Spillage, gate opening outwards |
What are two types of draft control equipment? |
Draft hoods (draft diverters) and barometric dampers. |
How does a draft diverter (draft hood) work? |
Nearly all domestic gas burners require a neutral overfire draft in the combustion chamber. Draft diverters maintain a neutral pressure over the fire. By allowing dilution air into the venting system, it lowers the temperature of the flue gases, preventing the hot gases from creating a negative pressure in the combustion chamber. |
What needs to be installed where a breeching enters a flue lining? |
Thimble |
