Single-celled organism that loves moisture. |
PROTOZOA often found in moist areas like the intestines. Usually spread through contaminated sources, like water/food. |

A type of Diffusion |
OSMOSIS During osmosis, a large molecule is dissolved in water in order to allow it to pass through a cell membrane. |
More commonly known as: Fatty Acids |
LIPIDS Lipids are more commonly known as fatty acids. Saturated > Solid at room temperature Unsaturated > Liquid Phospholipids > 2 fatty acids bonded to 1 phosphate group
How to convert decimals into fractions |
count the number of places to the right of the decimal. This will be the number of zeros in the denominator. The numbers to the right of the decimal will become the whole number in the numerator. For example: 0.45 > 45/100, 0.237 > 237/1000, .5 > 5/10 |

Series of reactions that occur within the mitochondria of a cell.

Smallest particle of any substance that retains the unique chemical properties of that substance |
MOLECULE Made up of two or more atoms held together by a chemical force. Molecules are made of atoms Compounds are made of two or more molecules. |
IONS |
Ions are electrically charged atoms. The charge can be positive, producing CATIONS, or negative ANIONS. |
Measure of the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution |
pH: A substance may have an acidic, basic(alkali), or neutral pH. A pH of 7 is considered neutral. less than 7 is said to be Acid while solutions with a pH above 7 is said to be Basic or Alkali
7 = neutral |
Smallest component of an element that maintains all of the characteristics of that element. |
ATOM

Substance that can be found in all three material states |
WATER Solid, gas, liquid. Water is denser in its solid state than in its liquid state, this is why ice floats and water freezes from top to bottom. The most important significant aspect of water is the polarity of its bonds. |
How many types of tissue are found in the human body? |
4 Epithelial Connective Muscle Nerve |
MITOSIS |
Is the process, in the cell cycle, by which a cell duplicates into two IDENTICAL daughter cells. Mitosis is followed immediately by CYTOKINESIS |
MEIOSIS |
Is a special kind of cell division necessary for sexual reproduction in eukaryotics cells. |

Main Idea in a paragraph can be found where? |
Main idea can be found in the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of a paragraph or passage. Always check the introduction and conclusion for the main idea. |

1) Changing rapidly 2) Significantly important and dangerous 3) Beginning suddenly or abrubtly; convulsive 4) Process used to determine the priority of tx for patients according to the severity of his/her condition. |
Meiosis vs. Mitosis |
Mitosis is necessary for growth and repair. In this process, the DNA is duplicated and distributed evently to two daughter cells.
Meiosis is the special cell division that takes place int he gonads, that is, the ovaries and testes. In this process the chromosome number is reduced from 46 to 23, so when the egg and the sperm unite in fertilization the zygote will have the correct number of chromosomes. |
Punnett Square |
With a device called a "Punnett square", it is possible to predict genotype (the combination of alleles) and phenotype (what traits will be expressed) |

Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase
Ends in Cytokinesis |
Cellular Respiration |
Anarbolic process that leads to cell energy production (ATP). 1 step > Conversion of glucose to pyruvate in a process called GLYCOLYSIS (takes place in the cytosol and produces two molecules of ATP) 2 step > Process of Pyruvate is transported into a mitochondrion and used in the first of series of reactions called the KREBS CYCLE. This takes place in the mitochondria. For a single consumed glucose molecule, two ATP mol., six mol of carbon dioxide, and six NADH mo. are produced. 3 step > Begins with Oxydation of the NADH mol. to produce oxygen and finally to produce water in a series of steps called teh electron transport chain. The energy harvest here is remarkable. For every glucose molecule, 28 to 32 ATP molecules can be produced. |
Photosynthesis |
Photosynthesis is a precursor to the glucose molecule used for cell energy production. |
In a cell, reactions take place in a series of... |
Metabolic pathways |
