“Something students sometimes do not give enough importance to is illustrations.”
We’ve all heard the statement “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Sometimes, we forget the importance or purpose of pictures that can also be referred to as illustrations. I feel that a Wordless Book activity would be a great example of teaching students the importance of using pictures to help them in the reading process. In Stage 0 and 1’s WebQuest under Task #8H, we discussed skills that a good reader possess. One of the skills that a good reader possess is having the ability to use Picture Clues to learn what a reading passage is about.
I have to admit that I did not use the skill very often, when I was in grade school. I chose to use other reading skills to help me be successful in reading. Today, pictures are a vital part of become a successful reader. You must utilize them to your utmost ability because they really do help reader to form a better understanding of what they read.

They have it mapped out in their minds that way, so that they do not have to waste time on the state exam going back multiple times in the passage to look for answers to questions. I think that this is a good method to use, but I also think that just like us this week, we learned the difference between skimming, scanning, close and extensive reading, high school students will need to learn these techniques too. This may help improve their test scores and free up some time spent taking the state
