For some, it will take them home safely, or for others, it can take them to a jail cell. People who do not get caught may think they never will, and that may make them believe that they can do it again. One article states, “The probability of being arrested while driving under the influence is estimated at one in 500 in California,”(Reyes 1). If they don’t get caught the first time, maybe their next intention is to drink more. Not only do they want to drink more, but they preplanned to drive home without watching their intake. Before they know it, they are so intoxicated that the alcohol slowed down the functions in their central nervous system that they are not focused on the cautiousness of their own lives (NCADD 1). The alcohol slows down the body enough that when it comes to making decisions, it’s not always the right one. They are always on the call when it comes to something urgent like an accident, however, it is taking away from their first responder duties. Yes, being in an accident caused by someone 's drinking is really serious, but, if there was a serious emergency like a bomb threat at a hospital or a big area, they would want as many firefighters and policemen as they can get to take care of a serious situation. Now, they do have a lot of stations in the cities, but they cannot always take care of something caused by a slow-witted decision. One expert on traffic safety enforcement programs at the Pacific Institute stated, “ Most police knows there 's still a lot of drunk driving going on and that they should enforce [laws to stop it], but there’s other competing issues going on. They can’t put all their marbles into the impaired driving enforcement. They’ve got other things to do,” (TIME 1). When someone gets into an accident, the city or owner has to pay for the damage that has been done. If the city has to repair it, that means it is coming out of tax. When it comes out of tax, they are taking more from workers’ paychecks.
