However, once a deeper look is taken, the link between the two becomes plain. The intake of unhealthy food, as stated earlier, leads to obesity, but is this something can be stopped with just some teamwork between concerned citizens and big food corporations. Before our enemy was the health behind what we ate it used to be what Americans were trying to smoke. Overtime with more information and help from the government the blueprint to making food healthier can be seen with the way America handled cigarettes. According to Sabrina Tavernise of the New York Times, “The single biggest behavioral success of the last century--the dramatic reduction in the share of Americans who smoke--took 50 years of education, regulation and medical intervention. Likewise, only a mixture of approaches has a chance of eventually reducing rates of obesity, these experts say”. (10) For this reason, it is important for Americans to begin to teach themselves and their families what to allow and not allow to enter their bodies now before it becomes to late with or without the help of food companies. The best way to avoid any issues for future generations to come is for these companies to team together with the people of society and help fight the growing epidemic of obesity and to establish a social norm of food and health
