Defining why the coaching is needed provides clarity and aids to center the leader’s true purpose. This keeps the coach focused on being a positive leader. Evaluating the skills of nurses is an ongoing process that the leader is actively involved in. The NM should take advantage of all opportunities to be face to face with an employee to assess and monitor what they are capable of doing. Knowing your employees is an important aspect of helping to develop them professionally. When there is a drop in staff morale or numerous complaints about a certain nurse, the Nurse Manager has to investigate to find out where the problem is. As a leader, it is expected that you are the change agent. Steanncyk, Hancock, & Meadows (2013) explains that the person that will be the change agent serves a dual role as the one who influences change themselves and the one who has the ability to transform
