The population of free blacks was growing and they began to take jobs from poor whites. Free blacks thought that the idea of colonization was appealing because they wanted a place of their own and wanted to return to where their ancestors came from. Slave owners did not support the migration to Africa because the importation of slave would end in 20 years. Abolitionist supported the migration to africa because They did not want free blacks in the U.S.
Gabriel’s rebellion was a plot to arm 1000+ slaves and stage a rebellion. The plan didn't work because some slaves involved told their masters consequently getting Gabriel and his associated executed by the authorities. As a result it was even harder to be manumitted and freed slaves had to carry passes. There was also a slave patrol that patrolled the streets and plantations in order to prevent future uprisings.
I was interested in the stipulations behind the creation of the naturalization act of 1790. This very act obliterated the chance of African Americans ever gaining citizenship. This act stated that only whites who had been living in the U.S for 2 years could be considered citizens. As I looked more into the Naturalization act of 1790 and the lasting impression that it had on american history I realized that African americans did not receive the rights of citizens until
