The first is the strengthening of bone. Bone is strengthened by muscle acting on the bones. The movements of the muscles stimulate bone making cells, which strengthen the bones. This prevents or lowers the risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures later in life. Medical research has proven that inactivity may actually worsened a person’s chances osteoporosis and weaken bones (Tidy; “Staying”). The next benefit of exercise is its ability to improve mood. It does this by releasing certain “feel-good” chemicals in the brain. The chemicals include serotonin, endorphins, neurotransmitters, and endocannabinoids. These simulate a morphine like feeling that may induce the feeling of happiness. These chemicals can also reduce stress and put the person in a good frame of mind (“Depression”; “Exercise: 7 benefits”; Goldberg). The next advantage to exercise is the decrease in the risk of some cancers. These cancers include colon, breast, uterine, and lung cancers. The link between the reduction of cancer and exercise is no clear. However, it is known that exercise reduces cancer triggers. The main cancer triggers include, high fat levels, hormone levels, and inflammation. For instance, the risk of breast cancer and uterine cancer can be lowered by exercise, because they are caused by the hormone, estrogen, which is lowered by exercise.
