In the area of School Counseling Programs, the weakness that I have personally experience are regarding I-B-1d that describes a counselor who knows how to identify and describe the qualities of an effective school counseling program. I have not personally been a counselor in the school setting nor do I have a lot of involvement with the success of a school counseling program. I believe that if I was to implement this program at the school that I will be working at, I will be required to do research in order for me to have a base of ideas as to what has worked and what hasn’t. An area that I found to be a strength for me is I-A-9, which states that the school counselor would work on a continuum of mental health services that would consist of preventions and interventions that would enhance students success. I feel that this is strength for me due to the fact that I have experience in the mental health field, and I have been exposed to multiple situations that help me understand the need to have preventive measures in a school counseling program.

To this point, I have concentrated in receiving training in mental health and I have acquired knowledge regarding the state and even local requirements of the practice. However, in the school counseling field, I have a lot of blind spots due to the fact that my training in school counseling began in 2012, but I paused it and just resumed it in 2016. This has prevented me from utilizing or acquiring more knowledge regarding the requirements at the state and district level.
