Specifically, Felicia stated that, during the 36 hours where she was awake, she felt like it was not reality. In addition, her illusion of bugs crawling on her and on her clothing caused her to call an exterminator, throw out all of her cloths, and then buy new cloths. However, the primary criteria of Brief Psychotic Disorder states that the individual must experience either delusions, hallucinations, or disorganized speech. In addition, she described that, while all of her stress was weighing on her, learning of her sister’s diagnosis essentially caused her hospitalization. Felicia subsequently shared that, at the time of evaluation, she felt hopeful that she could learn how to cope better and prevent a similar instance from occurring in the future. It was determined that, in addition to the identifiable stressor of her sister being diagnosed, Felicia experienced some anxiety from several other aspects, as well as feelings of hopelessness, all prior to her hospitalization. Therefore, Adjustment Disorder, With Mixed Anxiety and Depressed Mood. was retained as a second primary diagnosis.
II. Treatment Plan
It was recommended that Felicia seek the services of a behavioral therapist to alleviate her symptoms and anxiety related to cleanliness and order. If she can successfully reduce her symptoms, then she may feel more comfortable and confident at work, which would lead to a more consistent schedule and a more consistent income.
It was recommended that Felicia undergo a psychiatric assessment to determine if she is a candidate for pharmacotherapy, and to determine if her current medication is appropriate for her current condition and functioning. As Felicia worked long hours, Pharmacotherapy
