For years and years scientists have had mars in their crosshairs when discussing life on other planets within our solar system. Now say we discover that mars is completely lifeless in every way possible. Is there any other possibility of life in our solar system? The answer to that question is in the moons of Jupiter.
More specifically the moon europa. There is no absolute proof because scientists have not had the opportunity to land anything on the icy offspring of Jupiter. If there were life on the moon, it would be alot different than life than we see on earth, but not too different to life by hot thermal vents in our oceans. Europa has an outer layer of ice, but it is thought that strong …show more content…
The number of known planets has exploded to 1700 over the past years. The question is, do these planets have the right factors to harbor multicellular let alone single cellular life? NASA’s main detective on the job is the Kepler Telescope launched in 2009. In that time span kepler has found 715 new planets orbiting 305 stars. Not only that, 4 of theses planets are at the correct distance from their stars to have liquid water on them which would imply the great possibility of some form of life on the …show more content…
This planet is orbiting a G type star called Kepler 22. The two are more than 600 light years from earth and they lie in the constellation of Cygnus. The radius of the planet is about 2.4 times our earths radius while the mass and surface composition is not known because how far away it is. It is thought that it could be an oceanicaly dominated planet meaning it is completely ocean on the surface and has a small rocky core. The average distance from Kepler 22b to its sun is about 15% less than our earth to our suns distance but this is counterbalanced by the fact that the luminosity of the sun Kepler 22 is roughly 25% less than our suns. If the planet isn 't subject to extreme greenhouse heating these are perfect conditions for a moderate surface temperature meaning that life on this planet is a
