As I look back in my previous project in high school about suggesting a healthy diet to grade 11 students in our school, I do not feel accomplished as I thought I would be despite of receiving a perfect mark on the paper. I am more immersed on my project rather than the patient that I am caring for.

The Grade 11 and Grade 12 health care class had a joint project. As part of the senior class, I was appointed to be a ‘health care provider’ and be in charge of knowing the medical backgrounds, monitoring their fitness and providing healthy meal plan for three grade 11 students. One of the students has multiple health problems that affect her growth and ability to have an active lifestyle. She is overweight and loves to eat cakes and pastries. I thought that girls are comfortable sharing their concerns to their peers rather than to adults. After I read nursing literature about self-image in teenagers, I realized that I have not provided her some of the important pieces of information. Research shows that girls have the tendency to have a misconception on their weight and misconceived weight is associated with low self-esteem (Perrin et. al., 2010). I am also not aware that healthcare providers do not explain the meaning their exact body mass index, which contributes to the lack of accurate perception of overweight or obese status (Yang et. al., 2014). Healthcare providers need to promote an accurate perception of body image to aid the weight loss and lifestyle change for obese teens by explaining the BMI. Also, encouraging overweight teens to use various approach of activities such as walking club or weight training programs to lose weight are also ideal. (Yang et. al.,
